The theoretical part of this thesis characterizes multi-grade schools and their specifics. The history of multi-grade schools and their current state in the Czech Republic and abroad is also briefly outlined in this part. The research sample consisted of 9 teachers and headteachers from three multi-grade schools in the South Bohemian Region, with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted. Data were analyzed using the clustering. Research has shown that the main advantages of multi-grade schools include the development of pupils' social skills, the possibility to work with pupils individually and a better school and class climate which prevents bullying and other socio-pathological phenomena. These schools also offer suitable educational conditions for pupils with special educational needs. The disadvantages include especially the difficulty of the work of the school headteachers and also of the teachers, who have high demands on the organization of teaching.
